Multicultural Support

Newcastle Womens Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (NWDVCAS) has a specialist worker to assist women from multicultural backgrounds.

How we can help

We can assist multicultural women and children who have experienced or who are experiencing domestic violence to:

  • Support you and provide a safe place for you to wait while you’re at court

  • Support women to obtain an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO)

  • Give you information about court and AVOs, If you wish, where possible, have an interpreter to help you

  • Our worker can also refer you to culturally appropriate services

  • Feel supported throughout and after the court process.

  • Help you talk with your lawyer

  • Put you in touch with other support services and legal advice. In a number of courts, Legal Aid NSW provides lawyers who can give you free, independent legal advice

  • A wellbeing call, connection to community groups or a link with culturally specific services.
